Welcome to the year of the Fire Rooster!

The mischevious year of the monkey finally came to an end on January 28 when the rooster year took over. If the previous year was good of surprises (both good and bad!), the crow of the rooster heralds a new dawn. According to Chinese tradition, this sign is thought to bring a new era of awakening and success that’s, however, achieved with a lot of hard work and patience.

You may be surprised to know that in Chinese astrology, each zodiac sign is associated with both an animal sign and one of the five elements: water, fire, earth, wood or gold (metal). Both the sign and the element play an equally important part in moulding the astrology of the year.

2017 is the year of the Fire Rooster, a combination that occurs every 60 years. Fire Roosters are said to be trustworthy, responsible and with a good sense of timekeeping, all characteristics found in famous personalities born under this combination, including Dawn French, Stephen Fry and Martin Luther King III.

Roosters, in general, tend to be very hardworking, resourceful, observant and confident to the point they can be mistaken for arrogant. However, they’re incredibly loyal, devoted to their loved ones and always true to their word, which makes them good friends to have both in times of happiness and need.

Roosters are also endowed with the gift of the gab and love nothing more than being the center of attention, which is why they often choose careers as newsreaders, sales people, journalists, public relation officers, teachers and hairdressers, all professions that allow them to surround themselves with people and enjoy the spotlight. However, because of their trustworthy natures, roosters also make good firemen, security guards and police offers.

In short, Roosters are the sign of commitment, hard work and family values, all traits each and every one should tap into this year to reap great rewards and be successful in your endeavours.

Happy Chinese Rooster Year!
