My Top Ten Trends From Paris Fashion Week

Style  /   /  By Vicky Lee

There’s an extra exuberance about Paris during Fashion Week. The streets come alive with the passionate fashion followers busily hurrying around the city to catch each show. I love to get caught up with all the excitement in the air. Starting off every day with a delicious croissant and finishing with a beautiful glass of Sancerre, what’s not to love about Paris Fashion Week. I saw some amazing collections this year, all promising exciting new trends for the upcoming seasons! Here are my favourite looks and trends that we will all be wearing.

Pretty Little Bow

If there’s a must have feature for next season then its got to be the bow. This fun little accessory will be seen and worn everywhere. From in your hair, to on your shoes, or even oversizes ones adorning the back of your cocktail dress. We saw beautiful black bows in ponytails at Emilia Wickstead. Also gorgeous crystallised bow necklaces and headbands at Miu Miu. I love that these little additions can make any outfit more fun and on the whimsical side.

Neon Lights

Again at Paris Fashion Week we saw designers favouring styles take from the 80’s. Some designers used satins, laces to cottons but they all opted for highlighter-bright shades. We will definitely be seeing lots of bright neon garments next season. If you find these shades a little daunting then simply add some vibrant accessories. But be bold and you’ll be surprised how much you enjoy wearing these neons!

Textures

I love when designers play around with new fabrics. This fashion week we saw lots of different types of fabrics on the catwalks. The one that stood out for me the most was velvet. It’s such a luxurious fabric, always giving a sophisticated look. Wear a beautiful velvet coat over any outfit, day or night, to give that extra wow factor.

Shirts to Dress

Dress & Belt by Isabel Marant via NetAPoter

The best desk to dinner outfit has to be the shirt dress! I love how flattering an oversized shirt dress is being cinched in with a belt. To add extra style points team your shirt with some cowboy boots. This is a such a fun look, and very current. Typically shirt dresses are longer in length, cotton or broderie anglaise in style. I love this romantic feel and how you can feel amazing in such a simple style. It’s super feminine yet casual and covered up too.

Full Skirts

Jumper by Brooks Brothers, Skirt by Xu Zhi, Shoes by Julia Mays, Bag by The Cambridge Satchel Company

There’s nothing more fun and feminine than a full skirt to swish about in. I love the feeling of a full skirt, which I think can be dressed up or down. They look amazing with a chunky knit tucked in and some cowboy boots. For an evening look pair your full skirt with a sequin cami top or a sheer blouse for extra glam.

Relaxed Elegance

Above all I need to feel comfortable and relaxed in my outfits. Thankfully designers adopted a luxuriously simple and demure silhouette. Together with beautifully natural shades like oatmeal, biscuit and off-whites. I think this colour palette gives an effortlessly sophisticated, expensive and grown-up look. Next season you can’t be more on trend than wearing a full outfit consisting of a range of neutrals tones.

Animal Prints

Animal print, especially leopard, continues to make waves in the fashion world. Designers used different prints in their collections securing it a style staple for next season. Don’t be afraid to dress head to toe in animal print a la Tom Ford, or just have a little hint like at Burberry. To keep the look elegant stay true to the prints main colours. If its a black and white print choose bold shades such as a red to make it pop. With a brown print use a creamy beige, or caramel and coffee tones to give a luxurious feel.

Green for Go

All shades of green, whether it be pistachio or sage, will be very popular next season. I absolutely love green, i think that it can compliment any skin tone and suits blondes or brunettes. Some say that green is a lucky colour so make sure you fill up your wardrobe with this delicious shade. I think its a great transitional colour to take you from out of the cold winter into the freshness of spring. Wear a beautiful green dress with white boots to make it really pop!

Women Empowerment

This fashion season we saw designers really pushing the idea of empowering women through their clothes. I love the collections that promoted a strong and confident look. Super soft yet tailored suits are the perfect balance between being powerful and feminine. I believe that the right clothes can greatly enhance your confidence. Enjoy wearing beautifully tailored suits in perfectly pretty pink shades.

Bold Shoulders

I love how certain outfits can inspire confidence. I feel ready for business when I put a suit on. Thankfully the designers this year at Paris Fashion Week have shone a spotlight on women’s suits. They showcased different types of suits, from minimal styling to oversized and exaggerated. Invest in a beautifully tailored suit and it’ll see you through any occasion. Obviously I love to rock the power suit for a business meeting, but team it with some sneakers and a plain white tee and you got a great casual look too!
