You’ve probably noticed that green tea is an ingredient that’s been popping up more and more over the last few years, especially with the growing trend of clean-eating and healthy lifestyles. We’ve really become obsessed with it in all forms, whether it’s added to a beverage like a soy latte or nutrient-rich smoothie, mixed into the base of a cleansing face mask or eye cream, or even sprinkled into a delicious cake mix or macaron filling.
Korean beauty experts love to use green tea in their skincare products, and not just because of its wonderful scent or coloring. Green is a natural ingredient that has some amazing health benefits for the skin, which is why it’s used in three of my favorite Innisfree products – It’s A Real Squeeze Mask Green Tea, The Green Tea Seed Serum and The Green Tea Seed Cream.
First – and probably most importantly – green tea is great for anti-aging. It contains antioxidants that protect the skin from sun damage and from free radicals, two of the biggest causes of premature aging. One of these antioxidants is the EGCG antioxidant, which is known to help slow cell degeneration and in turn the aging process of skin. This means that green tea helps to keep skin smooth, tight, and well-moisturized for optimal health and beauty.
Second, green tea is very effective at keeping skin impurity-free. Because green tea is made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis plants, it contains a heavy dose of chlorophyll which detoxifies the body and wards off impurities to help keep skin looking flawless and radiant. Green tea also contains natural antibiotices like catechins, Vitamins A and C, calcium, protein, iron and potassium that help clean and purify the internal system, which in turn helps the body to get rid of and prevent blemishes and irritations of the skin.
Who knew an ingredient as delicious as green tea could be so great for the skin?
