Those Italians really know how to live! They live surrounded by such beautiful architecture, eat the most delicious food and clothe themselves in such fabulous fashions. Milan Fashion Week really didn’t disappoint once again. We saw a real show of Italianismo, with designers proudly showing off their creative skill and flair. There are lots of new exciting trends and themes running through the collections. Here are some of the main ones that I expect to be making the way down to the high streets soon.
- Underwear as Outerwear
Some underwear is just too pretty to be hidden under clothes. This decadent La Perla silk kimono gown is far too beautiful to be left at home. I love this seductive trend which has seen the fashionistas going crazy for. I love to wear delicate little lace bralettes or bodysuits and pair them with thick denim jeans and chunky knitwear. Wearing anything silk is so comfortable and make me feel feminine and sexy.
2. Holiday maker
One of the biggest trends to emerge from the runways in Milan was the idea of a holiday maker vibe. Taking resort style prints and recreating those wonderful holiday memories. Cavalli perfectly embodied this travel bug look with cool beach vibes and safari style chic. I have to say I am really enjoying this fun new trend. It gives you the opportunity to be a bit playful with fashion. So while you may be strolling down Kings Road, let your outfit transport you to beautiful faraway Caribbean shores!
3. Puff the Magic Dragon
I love wearing clothes that make simple statements. The exaggerated sleeve trend has been around for a few seasons now and from the collection at Milan fashion it looks to be here for a few more. Whether it be an asymmetric one shoulder dress with an 80’s vibe, or beautiful angel puff sleeves, you enjoy wearing this fun and feminine look.
4. I’m a bit of an Animal Print
A big trend for autumn/winter is animal prints, which Cavalli nails perfectly. I think investing in some beautiful animal print statement pieces will add value to your wardrobe. You’ll be wearing these pieces for years as they simply transcend the trends. Black and white animal prints such as zebra or cowhide really suit being dressed up for a striking look. While pulling out the beiges and tans of leopard or tiger print will look stunning teamed with white for a chic summery look.
5. The All Blacks
Ok so black is always a major fashion staple. It literally never goes out of style. It can be relied upon for any occasion, any time of day. Where would we be without it? However designers at Milan fashion week used head to toe black, mixing up textures and materials to give outfits real depth. I love the idea of a black silk cami top worn with a super soft black cashmere cardigan. The two materials in contrast but complementing each other so well. So gather all your favourite black pieces and wear them so happily together!
6. Jump To It
My jumpsuit has become a real must-have for me. They hit the catwalks last year and have been making fashion statements ever since. I absolutely love being able to throw on a jumpsuit and feel complete and ready to go. It totally takes away the stress of putting an outfit together! With all sorts of prints being featured in most collections at Milan fashion week, a bright floral print jumpsuit is the perfect choice. Don’t underestimate the longevity of this wardrobe staple. It can be dressed up and down, heels or flats, day or night.
7. Slogan tee
Literally wear your heart on your tee! Thanks to the likes of Gucci and Moschino the slogan tee is back with a vengeance. I absolutely love this as its the perfect little update to any outfit day or night. And with companies out there that will print what ever you like on T-shirt’s you can get it all off your chest, on your chest! Team a slogan tee with jeans and trainers for a casual weekend look. Simply add heels and a blazer and you’ll be ready for cocktails with the girls.
